We all have some friends who died today.

I am writing this as it serves me as a professional to help me get to the
job at hand and clarify my views. I am keenly interested in any debate to
my points or anything anyone has to add. This is a personal and profound
emergency for us all.

I am thinking the following:

1. That the purpose of terrorism is to force the state to enact a domestic
state of emergency and disturb domestic rights so as to evoke a response
from the populace. Bush shoudl resist and prevent this from occuring.
Business as usual shoudl be the main strategy. A close friend who is senior
at the NYSE says the board is now considering 3 to 4 weeks before reopening;
bu my friend says that the specialist and members are motivated to re-open
the day after tomorrow. This is the patriotic and correct thing to do, no
matter the chaos in clearing and operations. Even trade one stock. At all
costs Bush should be seen walking through his normal White House entry way
in a few hours. It will be a short term but serious setback if he flees
along with Congress. A joint session of Congress should be called tonight
with war declared. I cannot think of any more justified reason to call war
as the very essence of a nations defense is to eradicate such dangers to
security. The question as to "who is it? is immaterial, geography and
proximity is what will be used to define "who is it?".

2. However, if he does the right thing and responds vigorously and in
timely fashion, demonstrating the lack of impact this act has on the
operations of the US, a great moral and real victory will be achieved.

3. If he does the right thing, then the US will spend blood and treasure
and almost immediately to move the US from a quasi, unspoken hegemony, to an
imperial power, transferring the terrorist impact on rights from the
domestic scene to abroad. Not good for abroad, but deflecting the objective
of terrorism to off-shore. I think Bush will have the populace backing to
make such a move as the liberal and isolationist voice has been destroyed
this morning.

4. Market will at first have classic disaster hallmarks, gold will rally,
US dollar decrease, bonds rally, and stocks crushed. If Bush does the wrong
thing this can last until he does the right thing.

5. But once Bush makes the clear choice to move to an imperialist foreign
policy, then we will likely experience a strong rally in the dollar, a fall
in gold, a rally in large cap stocks, and a less vigorous but still good
rally in bonds.

6. Certainly bonds are to be bought now, then, depending on timing, large
cap US stocks.

7. This all will have a war which could and likely will escalate. If he is
intelligent Bush invites Russia to join in the occupation of Afghanistan.
French influence ends and UK plants itself firmly in the US camp. As the US
resolves once and for all the terrorist problem, and it will do so via
proximity and geography and not intelligence and politics, the imperialist
nature and ability to pursue such a policy will be apparent. This is also
the end of the anti - WTO and anti - Globalist protest. There will be
serious problems. I picture a constant bush war in US occupied Iraq and
Afghanistan and border skirmishes with isolated Iran, but it will be better
to have the conflict brought there than fought by civilians in the US
proper. At first I am sure Israel will be pleased with this event, as it
will seem to be the end of the criticism of their policies against
Palestine. But the terrorist will achieve one thing with this act which
will be the end of the State of Israel as we know it, but also the end of
Palestine. The US cannot afford this breeding ground of terrorism. The
Vietnam syndrome of intense worry over American service men suffering in
the service of their country is over. Many are using the example of Pearl
Harbor today, a better one is Munich and Chamberlain and the resulting
invasion of Czechoslovakia by Hitler. Appeasement and negotiations and
political settlements do not work with evil doctrines and extremist and the
US has the full God given right to defend their interest and security in
absolutely anyway shape, or form. The biggest and lasting outcome of this
tragedy is the end of terrorism and the beginning of Imperial United States.

Subject: bathos Bush coward? Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 15:34:18 -0400 I am now hearing that Bush is going into the bunker, listening to his Praetorian Guards. It is crucial that Bush enter the White House today, televised to the country. All I said about markets calls will be delayed by weeks or even months if Bush hides. It is time and crucial for Bush to demonstrate national courage. I again hear Bush is going into the bunker, this is terrible - terrorism is winning a battle.
